What needs to be paid for missed fasts?
Fidya
When a person cannot fast in Ramadan (i.e. due to ill health, travelling or menstruation) they should make up the missed fasts when they are able to do so. However, if they are not able to make up missed fasts they should pay fidya for someone else to be fed. For each fast missed, the amount to pay is £5, which is the value to feed a person for a day.
Kaffarah
When a person intentionally breaks a fast, without a valid reason, then compensation is due. The person should fast for 60 continuous days and if the person is not able to do so, then 60 poor people should be fed.For each fast broken, to feed 60 people, the amount to pay is £300.
Mercy begins with you — and reaches those who need it most.
